CYO Flag Football Championship
Last year it was the Rose Bowl, this year it was Bishop Amat H.S. The venue may have changed but for the second consecitive year the CYO Flag Football Championship came down to the final seconds. St. Charles of North Hollywood capped a wild shoot out with a touchdown with seven seconds left to take a 48-42 lead. (SEE VIDEO BELOW) After one last desperation play by Nativity of Torrance came up short, St. Charles' perfect season was complete and the CYO Championship was theirs. Both teams exhibited tremendous offensive skill throughout the day, scoring early and often in ways as varied as they were exciting. It was a fitting end to a high scoring post season that saw many tight battles and close finishes.
In the Consolation game, Holy Trinity of San Pedro held off American Martyrs of Manhattan Beach to claim Third Place.
Congratulations to all four teams on their excellent seasons.

THE DIRECTOR'S CUP
Since the 2006-07 school year, CYO has awarded The Director's Cup to the Member School who earns the most points during the school year for varsity level sports only in both Conference Events and Competition Events. Points are earned as follows: For Conference Events, a school shall receive 1 point for making CYO Playoffs, 1 point for advancing each CYO playoff round except for CYO Playoff 3rd Place Game and 1 bonus point for the CYO Playoff Championship Game. For Competition Events, points are earned for team events only and a school shall receive 2 points for 1st place and 1 point for 2nd place. In 2006-07 St. Jerome of Westchester won and last year American Martyrs School in Manhattan Beach won. To check the current standings for the 2008-09 Director's Cup, click on the above link.
